Art is Easy if the Light is Right

(Dedicated to the amazing artists at Doodlewash.com
They must always paint in the right light; their paintings
are never flat.)

I looked at Picasso’s
seamless abstract

and thought
“I can do that”

I already have
a smock and a hat

(a beret,
as they say)

He used lots of blue pigment
so I bought some

but still
my painting was flat.

Well, Hush!
Look at his fine sable brush…

I bought one
but when I was done

something
still seemed wrong

Hmmm, It must be
the slant of the sun.

    1. Dear Deb,

Your regard is the grandest award I could hope for. I am very appreciative of your nomination. At this time I am so far behind I think I am ahead. In the course of 9 days my computer was hacked, my bank account breached, I wrecked my car and I connected with the sidewalk, soundly and unexpectedly. I do most sincerely thank you. Will be stopping by to catch up at your site ASAP.

      My best,
      Sarah

      1. I’ve been missing you and wondering what you were up to. I was awake in the night. I’m getting ready to launch my website and just can’t get settled about about its purpose. I wanted a foundation for my book to live so it’s not in hiding like I do a lot of the time. 🙂 I’ve changed the title I started out with so the pictures don’t seem quite right blah blah blah. Anyway, I started reading Cathy Lee Giffords new book which gives historical significance to Biblical text like the Greek word translated for Carpenter is tekton which means builder. There were no trees that could be used for building in Israel at Jesus’ time. The wood from the cedars of Lebanon were used for rafts. There were only rocks in Israel. This is one example of poor translation in the Bible. Jesus wasn’t a carpenter he was a stone mason which gives new significance to text like Mathew 16:18. The word image in Hebrew is tzelem, derived from the word tzel which means shadow. Shadow doesn’t work independently but is a reflected image. We are to reflect God in all His ways. Bringing light out of darkness and order out of chaos was one of God’s first actions as Creator. We are called to reflect this. Boom. Message of my site. Can we not trust Him to take your situation and turn it all into order? He uses ALL things for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose. You are on my heart and in my prayers. Wish I could give you a hug and we could share a cup of tea.
Sending love beautiful poet. I sense some incredible words about to emerge…
        Deb

      2. Deb,

Thank you! Your reply warms my heart and soothes my mind. It means the world. I will settle for cyber tea tonight and thankful for it. But one of these days, we shall have to have a gathering of bloggers who have connected…maybe a sunny summer day with picnics and ants and bic pens, and air that is ripe with inspiration. We had a gathering of Peaceful Pub members in 2015. It was such a joy to meet the poets in person. I feel as if I know you already. So truly…maybe one of these days!

Thank you again for your beautiful and comforting reply. You make the world a better place.

        Sarah
