Lesson from a Late Spring

It happens again and again.
Each time we think
‘this year more so’.

Early thaw…
bare limbs shiver
with delight. New life,

then late frost
nips it in the bud.
We wait…

Sure enough,
eventually
there’s bloom.

Even if our faith
is frail, it happens.
But oh the joys

that we forfeit
if we believe
only what we see.
