to oil magnates, frackers, crackers, and slackers

gasoline
headed for four dollars a gallon
again

must need
another pipeline

to wipe-out pine tree and oak
nodding in the wind

and johnny-jump-ups
blooming…kill them

white tails and cotton tails
pack up your things

we want gasoline
to be two dollars a gallon again

somewhere
between reality and dream

somewhere between
hoarding and need

and somewhere
between profit and greed

there is a solution
quit playing games
and find it

It’s greed, greed and greed again; and not just with the energy companies; the ethos applies to pretty much the whole of the corporate world nowadays. Enough it seems is never enough.

Problem is, our span on this planet is relatively short, which means the snouts in the trough just don’t give a damn about tomorrow as they will never have to face the consequences.

As for the great fossil fuel burn; it will end soon enough as the tipping point is long past. Just think, what powers our world today was tens of millions of years in the making, but has been hardly more than a hundred years in the wasting. What fools we are.

    Douglas.

    1. Douglas,

So sorry I’m slow to reply…been away, supporting the medical industry.
“Problem is, our span on this planet is relatively short, which means the snouts in the trough just don’t give a damn about tomorrow ”

that is spot on! (so much so, I’m going to copy to The Pub’s Bon Mots.)

      and so is this:

” Just think, what powers our world today was tens of millions of years in the making, but has been hardly more than a hundred years in the wasting. What fools we are.”

Thank you for taking time to read my work and to leave your thoughts. It makes that short span brighter.

      Sarah

PS. Heading for four dollars you say. Hmmm, still rather better than the seven dollars fifty we already pay on this side of the pond. :))
