At the Nursing Home

fragments
of forgotten things
confetti falling
in a space of moments
and ghosts

pebbles
thirsting for light
yet shrinking
from it —
dark alleys

those inroads
less travelled but
not quite safe
clouded eyes
and a crowded mind

the confusion
of not understanding
she resides
in a distant past
a place we can’t reach
