Thank You!

As December’s  slanting sun
rose on the midday horizon,
snowflakes gathered
as if to camouflage the menace
of a season just begun.

Well past the friendly exit
marked with that warning sign
“last mechanic before the state line”
and before the boundary of changed
domain, all the horses coughed
and died simultaneously.

Not a likely location
for two angels to alight,
there beside the fast lane
with traffic whizzing by
without any given notice
that my plight had caught their eye,

But two angels turned around
at the next exit and returned
with a reassuring hand
and a most welcome cell phone–
one unlike mine
with its battery freshly flatlined.

Names were not asked
nor offered, an oversight
I claim. Please know dear Angels
I am back home, safe and sound.
Can you hear me now?
