As we celebrate this country that we love, who among us will consider the principles on which this great nation was birthed? When barbecues are done and the last fire works have blossomed and faded into the night, please take the time to give it some thought.

A Proper Parade

A two and a half million dollars parade…
who do you think has paid that price?
If our taxes are wasted, we deserve it I guess
but what about those with no say?
Remember the children with flies on their faces,
and bellies swollen with want?  No, not those
way over there, but our own, born
on the wrong side of town.
Remember during the cold war when we were taught
of countries less fortunate? No bread could be bought
yet dictators rolled out their tanks; massive weapons
gleamed bright in the sun as huddled masses
murmured their thanks. Who has decided
that’s how our parade should be?
You?  Me? Have we?
