This Joy of Receiving

(after brunch)

He brings us bread and wine
that we might learn
to love the simple things,
the fruits of heaven and earth
that carry their own gleaming…

the only way
they have of speaking
that our ears might hear,
that our hearts
might open to.

It is a primal calling,
this need
to feed on something spiritual,
something internal
that stills the world,

this quest for quietness
with His language as its peal,
the truth
that we must listen for
in stillness.

He brings us bread and wine
and dawns that promise
sun by noon.
That our bounty might increase,
He offers peace.
